A 9 microlitre CBC on a benchtop
The BC-20s is Mindray’s entry 3-part haematology analyzer. Note the lowercase "s" in the official name, and note that this is the human clinical model — the veterinary equivalent is a separate product called BC-20 Vet.
It reports 19 parameters plus three histograms from 9 microlitres of whole blood, or 20 microlitres in prediluted mode, at 40 samples per hour. The sample volume is the number that decides suitability: 9 microlitres is workable for paediatric and difficult venous access.
The instrument is a benchtop unit at 410 by 300 by 400 millimetres and up to 20 kilograms, with an 8.4-inch TFT touch screen and storage for 200,000 results including histograms. Mindray lists original QC material, calibrators and reagents alongside it.
Applications
- Routine CBC in small laboratories

A 3-part analyzer covers routine CBC screening. The step up buys throughput, storage and connectivity rather than a different differential; 5-part models are a separate decision.
Common questions about Mindray BC-20s Auto Hematology Analyzer
Is the "s" capitalised?
No. Mindray writes BC-20s with a lowercase s. The veterinary model is a different product named BC-20 Vet, so the two should never be quoted interchangeably.
How much blood does one test need?
9 microlitres of whole blood, or 20 microlitres in prediluted mode.
What throughput can it manage?
40 samples per hour, which suits a small laboratory rather than a high-volume department.
How many results can it store?
200,000 results including histograms.
What are the measurement linearities?
WBC 0-100, RBC 0-8.00, HGB 0-280 g/L and PLT 0-1,000. Values above those ranges require dilution.
How does it differ from the BC-30s?
The BC-30s reports 21 parameters at 70 samples per hour with a 10.4-inch screen, 500,000 result storage, WiFi, bi-directional LIS and intelligent flagging. The BC-20s is the smaller and slower model with the same 9 microlitre sample volume.
