The CAL 9000 is Mindray’s current generation haematology automation line. The premise is that a large laboratory should not have to move a tube between instruments to get a complete answer: the line delivers CBC, ESR and HbA1c results from a single EDTA tube.
It is assembled from Mindray instruments rather than being a single analyzer. The BC-7600 Series analyzer produces CBC and ESR in about 40 seconds on one instrument; the SC-120 makes and stains slides; the MC-80 performs digital cell morphology with multi-layer fusion imaging; and the H-120 measures HbA1c by HPLC with a stated coefficient of variation at or below 1% at 120 tests per hour.
Around those analyzers sit the logistics: the TM-1000 sample processing system for loading, scanning, registration and archiving, the CR-30[H] concentrated reagent delivery system, and labXpert software. labXpert adds multi-condition re-exam rules, auto-validation of normal samples and multi-station remote validation at no additional licence cost, which is the part that changes how many staff hours the line consumes.
